About: Mediation

What Is Mediation?

Are you looking for an alternative to the court system to settle your conflict? Mediation is an alternative to the court system. Mediation is an economical choice, costing less financially and emotionally than going to court. In mediation, individuals come together face-to-face or online in a private, safe, informal space to create balanced solutions for their conflict.

What happens in mediation?

When people choose mediation to resolve conflict, they are in control of the process. Each person offers their points of view and the mediator assists them in creating balanced solutions for the conflict. During mediation, people work together peacefully  creating balanced solutions that fit their unique situation. Each person involved in mediation has chosen to work together in the best interest of the situation and each other. The people involved in the mediation are the only ones who will determine what the final balanced solution is.

Typically, those involved in mediation will reach and sign an agreement.

A Mediator's Role

A mediator is an impartial third party. Mediators are trained to listen to the issues and facilitate effective communication. A mediator assists those who choose to mediate as they create balanced solutions that best fit their specific situation and needs.

Not giving legal advice, the mediator aids those in mediation to focus on respectful, mutually beneficial communication.
